Oak Park - Melbourne, Australia
A corner property with plenty of light, the brief was for a beautiful, low-maintenance garden which would included abundant food growing areas.
Tropical Garden
The lowest part of the site receives excess water but is protected from the hot western sun. Under a large Maple it has all day summer shade so is perfectly suited to a tropical shade garden.
Plant selection includes Monsteria deliciosa, Strelitzia reginae, Canna spp. Clivia
Entrance Gardens
Edged and raised beds were added to the entrance to keep maintenance low. Capping was added to double as informal seating.
Plants are easy-care with grafted standard Grevillea ‘Robyn Gordon’ cascading down, with native groundcovers beneath.
The area beside the front door (right) is scented and mainly white flowering, retaining the existing Daphne odora adding standard Gardenia underplanting of Azalea and Alyssum.
Works
Works provided some informal seating and structure to the garden, ensuring grass areas are easily maintain and separated from plantings.
Food Gardens
Sheltered from hottest part of the day the beds are also close to the kitchen. Berries are in their own area and Passionfruit cover the side wall to receive full sun.
All sleepers used are non arsenic Ecowood Pine.
